Devotion for Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Scripture - “Without wavering, let us hold tightly to the hope we say we have, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.” Hebrews 10:23

Observation - Hebrews Chapter 10 is talking about how the old Laws of Moses have been overridden by Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. There is no longer a need for us to sacrifice animals in exchange for forgiveness, all we need now is to sincerely repent. Christ sent his Son to Earth as the ultimate sacrifice for us all.

Application - ‘Without wavering’...we are told to hold tightly to the promise that we are children of the Most High, that the sacrifice has already been made for our sins...but we are told to hold tightly ‘without wavering’. These 2 words are part of the direction- it’s not ‘try and get through’ or ‘do your best to hold on’ it’s ‘without wavering’, as in ‘I made you for this and you are entirely capable of it because that’s how I created you’. When you think you’re not worth it, when you think that you’re not good enough, know that God created you WITHOUT WAVERING. There was no doubt in his mind about creating you as child of his. Sometimes we can lose sight of that promise too, when we face great destruction or tragedy or everything all at once. You are sent there to demonstrate the HOPE that we say we have. Stand strong, without wavering, on that hope and these promises.

Prayer - Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being a God of purpose. Thank you for sending this team of Your children to be an example of Your Hope and Love. I pray that their faith grows as they stand strong your promises, I pray that the faith of the people of Haiti is continued to be refreshed and renewed and that you would use this destruction to rebuild with purpose the Country of Haiti all those in it. Remind us of how blessed we are to know, without wavering, that our sins have been bought and paid and that we have been redeemed. In your name I pray, Amen.
